Every week I work 30+ hours at a portrait studio where I shoot no less than 100 different people each week, sometimes each day. What this means is I have worked with every type of subject, from camera ready to camera shy, from brides to blacksmiths, and from artists to accountants.

When possible, my approach to portrait work involves a heavy focus on the environment of the portrait in order to get the model comfortable and fully communicate the story of the subject. I think that Edward Steichen sums it up best: “A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it.”
